Printing labels — Safari on Mac

Where the printer, paper size, and scale settings live in Safari's print dialog, and how to save them as a one-click preset.

This is the print-dialog walkthrough for Safari on a Mac. For how to start a print and choose a label format, see Print barcode labels for your items.

What happens when you print

Clicking Print N labels opens a new tab with your labels as a PDF, and the print dialog pops up on its own about half a second later.

Check three things:

  • Printer — your label printer. For most stores that's the Rollo X1040 (Wi-Fi) or a DYMO LabelWriter (USB). For Avery or cardstock formats, your regular printer.
  • Paper Size — must match the format you chose. Rollo: 2x1 (2.00 by 1.00 inches). DYMO: 30334 2-1/4 in × 1-1/4 in or 30336. Sheet formats: US Letter.
  • Scale — leave at 100%.

Orientation can stay on Portrait for every format. Click Print.

Save it as a preset

If this is how you'll always print, save the settings so you don't have to re-check them every time.

  1. Open the Presets dropdown at the top of the print dialog.
  2. Choose Save Current Settings as Preset….
  3. Name it something obvious, like Vinty Rollo Labels.

Next time, pick the preset and Safari restores the printer, paper size, and orientation in one click.

If the dialog doesn't open

Safari sometimes blocks the automatic print. The PDF is still open in the new tab — press ⌘P there and the same dialog appears.

Troubleshooting

Label prints blank. The PDF hadn't finished rendering when the dialog fired. Cancel, then press ⌘P in the PDF tab.

Only part of the label prints. Paper Size doesn't match the format. Pick the size that matches what's loaded in the printer.

Barcode won't scan. Scale must be 100%.
